I agree that it is baffling. I even offered to help with the profiles on this one but to be fair I think they were already at an advanced stage when I did so. But it would be nice to open one of their books where so much new ground is explored and find good color artwork worthy of the subject. Osprey's JNAF aces book was really marred by depicting almost every airframe as if it had flown through a one-hour hailstorm over the Owen Stanleys, then been abandoned for six months, with no attention paid whatsoever to what photos of these particular aircraft showed that they looked like. They were no better really than the old Arco-Aircam sideviews published 30 years before. When there are sources such as j-aircraft and this blog, that are interested in doing more than perpetuating certain publishing and modeling myths, why are these sources not valued, utilized, and credited? The lower the number the closer the match with a difference calculation of 2.0 or less indicating a very close match.<BR/><BR/>Thus for example FS 14056 to Thorpe's N1 Black Green is @ 1.10, a useful match where the FS value provides a very close approximation to the original colour. On the other hand FS 34058 to Thorpe's N2 is @ 3.99 and less useful in visualising the original.
